Teaser posters
A teaser poster is a short preliminary advertisement for
film that stimulates and creates interest to the public by remaining mysterious
and not allowing the audience to know much about the film. These teaser posters
are made to introduce the film to the public sometimes they are released as
early as before filming has even started. The teaser posters creates
acknowledgement and excitement about the film. The most common approach to a
teaser poster is to have the films title in huge writing making it very easy
for the public to see. They also tend to have an image of the main character on
the poster and the name of the actor. Majority of the time the teaser poster
does not reveal the film release date but rather use ‘coming soon’ to build up
anticipation around the film and help build up a hype.
Image: Liam Neeson is a very well known actor and is best
remembered for the film ‘Taken’. This
would automatically create a hype and excitement for the public and to those
that enjoyed ‘taken’ as it received such huge success.
Tagline: The tagline in this poster creates a huge buzz. Even the
audience had not seen the first film, they would still be aroused and eager
into seeing the film as the tagline is very dramatic in a sense of making it
clear that there is danger coming and that the main character is no longer safe
and a target considering his daughter was taken before.
Date:
As this is a teaser poster, it is meant
to entice the public, rather than giving away the release date, the poster
states ‘coming soon’. This can make some people very impatient due to wanting
to watch it and therefore when released they may be the first to view it
Title:
Franchises are seen
to be more successful as people tend to realise that if another film was
created it would support the fact that the first one was successful. Therefore
the title ‘Taken 2’ may attract audiences not only for it being the second film
but also for the word ‘Taken’. It gives an insight of what the film may be
about and those that are into action/thriller may opt to watch it.
Institution: 20th
Century Fox is regarded as a very successful institution, and is known to be in the ‘Big 6’. Those that are familiar with films that were
successful from the institution may want
to watch the film as they previously have been impressed and enjoyed other
films from them.
A main poster usually consists of a clear image of the
main character(s) as well as a setting that is within the film. Unlike a teaser
poster, there is a bit more information on it, however it still doesn’t give
too much away as they need to make people watch the film, rather than them
knowing exactly what happens through the advertisement. They also state when the film would be
released on the main posters, which could create more of a buzz to the audience
as they now know when to expect the film to be in cinemas. It is important that
the title is large on the poster as that is the key word for audiences to
remember as that is the films name.
Image: Rihanna is known more for her music and singing rather
than acting, so having her as the main image on the poster could cause a lot of
hype and buzz as it is something new and people would want to see how good she
is at acting. Within the film she
is not even the main character however as she has such a huge platform in
music, it would be able to help the film
gain viewers and an audience.
Tagline: the tagline helps to attract the target audience who are
into action packed films. The word ‘Battle’ gives away the theme of the film
and roughly what may be happening within the storyline. As it says the battle
for earth, the audience may be intrigued and gain an urge to watch it if they
like films that is based on saving the planet.
Date: As this is the main poster they have given more
information on when the film would roughly be released. However to still build
up excitement they haven’t stated when exactly in April it would be released,
therefore leaving the target audience to be checking updates every day/week
until it is released.
Institution: Universal is an
institution that is known to be in the ‘Big 6’ . Having made such successful
films in the past, those that are a fan of their films may want to go and watch
this one.
Title: The font colour
used I feel is clever as it looks almost as if it is metal, and that would
relate to the term ‘Battleship’ in a sense of who is the strongest. Ships in itself tend to be made out of metal
or steel, therefore the title empathises on the theme and storyline of the
film.
